SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 317
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Raul Gonzalez, who recently celebrated his 82nd
  birthday; and
         WHEREAS, This distinguished gentleman is well known for
  his wisdom and generosity of spirit, and he is an admired and
  respected citizen of El Paso; and
         WHEREAS, Raul Gonzalez was born in El Paso on
  December 17, 1930; his family moved to Brownsville in 1947;
  after finishing high school, he enlisted in the United States Air
  Force, where he served with distinction as a medic and rose to the
  rank of staff sergeant; and
         WHEREAS, After his military service, he returned to his
  hometown of El Paso and embarked on a long and fulfilling career
  with the Planning and Zoning Department of the City of El Paso;
  while serving the people of El Paso, he was given the prestigious
  accolade of being named an honorary police officer; he also
  served the state and nation for 28 years as a member of the Texas
  State Guard and retired with the rank of colonel; and
         WHEREAS, He has been married to his wife, Margarita
  Gonzalez, for nearly 50 years, and the couple raised two
  children, Benjamin and Laura Elena Gonzalez, who have been a
  source of much pride and joy; and
         WHEREAS, A beloved and respected member of his community,
  he is noted for his courage, his generosity, and his compassion
  for others; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  83rd Legislature, hereby congratulate Raul Gonzalez on his 82nd
  birthday and commend him on his many outstanding achievements and
  his contributions to his community and state; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
