WHEREAS, | ||
WHEREAS, Hank Hammack was born to Gladys and George Hammack | ||
in 1928 in Kansas City, Kansas; he grew up in Washington and | ||
graduated from high school in Richland, Washington; he served the | ||
nation with distinction as a radio operator with the United | ||
States Marine Corps during the Korean War; and | ||
WHEREAS, He earned a bachelor's degree and a master's | ||
degree from the University of Washington School of Drama and a | ||
doctorate in theater from Tulane University; in 1957, he joined | ||
the faculty at Texas Christian University, where he taught for 37 | ||
years until his retirement in 1994 as professor emeritus; and | ||
WHEREAS, Over the course of his career at Texas Christian | ||
University, Dr. Hammack was involved in virtually every facet of | ||
the discipline of theater, from scenery and costume design to | ||
directing and acting; he was a true renaissance man, and the | ||
diversity of the courses he taught was remarkable; his courses | ||
included introduction to theater, literature and criticism, | ||
theater lighting, and all levels of acting; he also served as | ||
chairman of the department several times; and | ||
WHEREAS, His longtime experience as an actor included more | ||
than 40 stage productions, numerous television commercials, and | ||
several industrial and feature films; he was in much demand as a | ||
lecturer on the subjects of film and theater history; and | ||
WHEREAS, He was an active member of University Christian | ||
Church, where he served as a deacon, an elder, and a member of the | ||
choir; he played a prominent role in the creation of the church's | ||
annual Boar's Head and Yule Log Festival; and | ||
WHEREAS, He was a man of many talents who gave unselfishly | ||
to others, and his wisdom, his warmth, and his enthusiasm for | ||
living each day to the fullest will not be forgotten; and | ||
WHEREAS, Henry Hammack was a devoted husband, father, and | ||
grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd | ||
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere | ||
condolences to the bereaved family of Henry Edgar Hammack; and, | ||
be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas | ||
Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in | ||
memory of Henry Hammack. | ||
