WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
recognize the Testicular Cancer Foundation for its work on | ||
raising awareness of testicular cancer and emphasizing the | ||
importance of early and regular screenings for the disease; and | ||
WHEREAS, Testicular cancer is most common in young or | ||
middle-aged men between the ages of 15 and 35; each year, nearly | ||
9,000 new cases occur in the United States, and approximately 380 | ||
men in the United States die from the disease; and | ||
WHEREAS, When the presence of testicular cancer is | ||
restricted to the testicle, a single surgical procedure can | ||
usually treat the disease fully, but if the cancer has spread to | ||
additional tissue, patients often face extensive treatments | ||
including chemotherapy and radiation; like many diseases, early | ||
detection can be key to a successful outcome; and | ||
WHEREAS, Since 2009, the Testicular Cancer Foundation has | ||
provided education and support to young men and has helped raise | ||
awareness of the disease by stressing the need for regular | ||
self-examinations; and | ||
WHEREAS, The foundation has gained attention for creating | ||
shower cards that depict clear and simple steps for a self-check | ||
examination, and between 2012 and 2014, more than 40,000 | ||
potentially lifesaving cards were distributed; and | ||
WHEREAS, The Testicular Cancer Foundation is committed to | ||
providing accurate, factual, and encouraging information about | ||
testicular cancer, and all those who work to promote its mission | ||
are indeed deserving of recognition; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th | ||
Legislature, hereby commend the staff and leadership of the | ||
Testicular Cancer Foundation and declare the month of April as | ||
Testicular Cancer Month in Texas; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
the foundation as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. | ||
