WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the | ||
citizens of Laredo and Rio Bravo in mourning the loss of Lance | ||
Corporal David Lee Espinoza, who died in the line of duty while | ||
serving in Afghanistan on August 26, 2021, at the age of 20; and | ||
WHEREAS, David Espinoza was born on July 10, 2001, in | ||
Laredo, and he grew up in Rio Bravo; after earning his diploma | ||
from Lyndon B. Johnson High School in 2019, he fulfilled his | ||
lifelong dream of serving in the military, and he enlisted in the | ||
United States Marine Corps; and | ||
WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Espinoza served the nation with | ||
distinction and was stationed in Jordan for two years; he | ||
transferred to Kabul, Afghanistan, only one week before he was | ||
tragically killed in the August 26 terrorist attack at the Kabul | ||
airport that claimed the lives of 13 members of the American | ||
military forces and killed and injured many others; and | ||
WHEREAS, The passing of such a promising young person has | ||
had an impact far beyond the Rio Bravo community, and military | ||
service members, members of law enforcement, and countless | ||
citizens across the nation have expressed their condolences and | ||
have shared their grief over this devastating loss; and | ||
WHEREAS, This heroic Marine was beloved by his family and | ||
friends, who knew him as a kind, intelligent young man with a | ||
quiet yet determined spirit and a generous heart; he was | ||
dedicated to helping others and served as a volunteer in the Rio | ||
Bravo community center to benefit those most vulnerable and in | ||
need; and | ||
WHEREAS, Left behind to honor his memory are his mother, | ||
Elizabeth Holguin; his father, Vic Dominguez; his two brothers | ||
and his sister; and a host of friends and loved ones who were | ||
inspired by his strength, his courage, and his commitment to | ||
service; and | ||
WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Espinoza was an American hero who | ||
risked all to protect our country and his fellow citizens, and he | ||
made the ultimate sacrifice while working to preserve this | ||
country's freedom; his brave service on behalf of this nation | ||
will not be forgotten, and his selfless spirit and strength have | ||
left an indelible mark on the lives of all who were privileged to | ||
know him; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th | ||
Legislature,2nd Called Session, hereby extend our most sincere | ||
and heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of Lance | ||
Corporal David Lee Espinoza of Rio Bravo; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas | ||
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in | ||
memory of U.S. Marine Lance Corporal David Espinoza. |
