| WHEREAS, The Korean American Association of El Paso | ||
| provided vital aid to the citizens of Turkey in the wake of the | ||
| devastating earthquakes that impacted the nation in February | ||
| 2023; and | ||
| WHEREAS, On February 6, a magnitude 7.8 quake struck | ||
| southern Turkey and northern Syria, and strong aftershocks | ||
| continued to ravage communities in the weeks that followed; the | ||
| earthquakes killed at least 50,000 people and injured many more, | ||
| and the widespread destruction of property left hundreds of | ||
| thousands homeless; and | ||
| WHEREAS, In response to the disaster, the Korean American | ||
| Association of El Paso worked tirelessly to collect donations and | ||
| raise funds for the people of Turkey; the organization has | ||
| benefited immeasurably from the contributions of its members, | ||
| who are veterans of armed forces in the United States as well as | ||
| other nations; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The members of the Korean American Association of | ||
| El Paso have helped to ease the burden on a number of earthquake | ||
| survivors in Turkey, and in so doing, they have set an inspiring | ||
| example of compassion and generosity toward others; now, | ||
| therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th | ||
| Legislature, hereby commend the Korean American Association of | ||
| El Paso for its contributions to earthquake relief efforts in | ||
| Turkey and extend to the organization's members sincere best | ||
| wishes for the future; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be | ||
| prepared for the Korean American Association of El Paso as an | ||
| expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. | ||
