SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 80
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  join Texas Christian University in celebrating the career of
  former Horned Frog Dr. James Cash, Jr., on January 29, 2011; and
         WHEREAS, James Cash, Jr., became the first African
  American in the Southwest Conference when he signed an athletic
  letter of intent to play basketball at Texas Christian University
  in 1965; he is one of only 30 players in the university's history
  to reach the 1,000-point milestone; he finished his career in
  fifth place on the Frogs' all-time scoring list, still holds
  fourth place on the program's career rebounding chart with 856,
  and helped the Frogs win the 1967-1968 Southwest Conference
  championship title; and
         WHEREAS, While he was setting records on the basketball
  court, he was also earning honors in the classroom; he received a
  bachelor's degree in mathematics from Texas Christian University
  and a master's degree in computer science and a doctorate in
  management information systems and accounting from Purdue
  University; and
         WHEREAS, He joined the faculty of the Harvard Business
  School in 1976; he was the first African American to become a full
  professor at the school, where he held the James E. Robison chair
  and also served as senior associate dean; during his tenure, he
  taught in all the major programs of the business school and
  helped build the school's curriculum in the area of
  computer-based technology; he also served as chairman of the
  master of business administration program, the Harvard Business
  School Publishing Company, and Baker Library; he retired from the
  business school in 2003; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Cash serves on a number of public, private,
  and nonprofit boards of directors, including those of General
  Electric, Wal-Mart, the Boston Celtics, the Smithsonian Museum
  of African American History and Culture, and the National
  Association of Basketball Coaches Foundation; a Harvard
  professor emeritus, he runs personal development programs for
  executives in Global 500 organizations, and he is a widely
  published author on the strategic use of information technology
  in the service sector; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, hereby commend Dr. James Cash, Jr., on his
  outstanding accomplishments as a Texas Christian University
  All-American basketball star and on his exemplary career as a
  leader in academia and business; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
