AMENDMENT IN THE NATURE OF A SUBSTITUTE
(Proposed by the Governor
on April 8, 2024)

A BILL to direct the Board of Medicine to require certain licensees to complete training that addresses maternal health care for African American, indigenous, and Hispanic women and women in underserved rural communities as part of their continuing learning activities.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. §1. That the Board of Medicine (the Board) shall require that persons licensed by the Board who work with maternal populations, including persons who work in fertility care, prenatal care, birth care, and postpartum care, complete two hours of continuing learning activities that address maternal health care for populations of women that data indicate experience significantly greater than average maternal mortality, including African American, indigenous, and Hispanic women and women in underserved rural communities. Licensees subject to this requirement shall take such training no later than July 1, 2026, and shall attest to obtaining such training using a form provided by the Board.
