Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 8.01-383.2 as follows:

§8.01-383.2. Jury verdict; excess damages; amendment of pleadings.

In the event that a jury returns a verdict for damages in excess of the ad damnum in the complaint or the amount of damages requested pursuant to § 8.01-379.1, the court may permit amendment of the ad damnum or amount requested pursuant to §8.01-379.1 to conform to the amount of the jury verdict and enter judgment for such damages.
