HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 298
Celebrating the life of William Clark Jordan.

WHEREAS, William Clark Jordan of Waynesboro, a respected citizen and outstanding community leader, died on May 31, 2009; and

WHEREAS, W. Clark Jordan was born on August 23, 1920, in Nelson County, the son of Kelsoe and Gertrude Coffey Jordan, attended public schools, and served his country during World War II in the European and Mediterranean Theaters as a proud member of the United States Navy; and

WHEREAS, W. Clark Jordan was married to his beloved wife of 66 years, the late Alva Jordan, and the couple had a wonderful daughter, Tina Carol; and

WHEREAS, a loyal and valued employee, W. Clark Jordan enjoyed a rewarding career with DuPont and retired from the company after 39 years of exemplary service; and

WHEREAS, dedicated to the prosperity of Waynesboro and the well-being of its residents, W. Clark Jordan served in many local leadership positions, including as a member of the Waynesboro City Council for 13 years, six of those years as mayor; as a member and chair of the Waynesboro School Board; and as a member of the Central Shenandoah Planning District Committee; and

WHEREAS, over the years, W. Clark Jordan generously gave his time and talents to many community organizations, such as the Salvation Army of Waynesboro, the local Republican Committee, and the Lee Masonic Lodge No. 209, where he was a longtime member and former master of the lodge; and

WHEREAS, W. Clark Jordan was a charter member of West Waynesboro Church of Christ and was active in the church's many missions in the community; and

WHEREAS, W. Clark Jordan will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his family, including his daughter and son-in-law, Tina Carol and John W. Jackson III; his two granddaughters and their husbands, Dagny Kara and Christopher Collier and Whitney Erin and Jason Levin; his five great-grandchildren, Jackson David Collier, Oliver Clark Collier, Erin Franklyn Collier, Reece Duncan Levin, and Eden Helena Levin; and his good friends and admirers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of a fine community leader and outstanding Virginian, William Clark Jordan; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of William Clark Jordan as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
