HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 356
Celebrating the life of the Honorable Thomas O. Bondurant.

WHEREAS, the Honorable Thomas O. Bondurant, a distinguished attorney in the Richmond region and a retired judge of the 14th Judicial District of Virginia, died on July 26, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Thomas "Tom" O. Bondurant grew up in Rice and graduated from what was then known as Prince Edward Academy in Farmville; and

WHEREAS, Tom Bondurant continued his education at the University of Richmond, where he received a bachelor's degree in English, was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity, and played on the baseball team; and

WHEREAS, Tom Bondurant was twice selected as the All-Southern Conference first baseman, and he served as captain of the University of Richmond baseball team during hall-of-famer Mac Pitt's last season as head coach; and

WHEREAS, Tom Bondurant subsequently earned a law degree from the University of Richmond, during which time he served as an assistant coach on the baseball team; and

WHEREAS, Tom Bondurant pursued a career as an attorney and practiced law in the Richmond area for more than 40 years; he also served as the county attorney for Westmoreland County, the commissioner in chancery for Henrico County, and as a substitute judge for more than a decade; and

WHEREAS, Tom Bondurant was a founding member of the Henrico County Bar Association and provided his expertise to the Disciplinary Board of the Virginia State Bar; he inspired future generations of attorneys by teaching trial advocacy as an adjunct professor at the University of Richmond for 10 years; and

WHEREAS, Tom Bondurant was appointed as a judge of the Henrico County General District Court of the 14th Judicial District of Virginia and presided over the court with great fairness and wisdom until his retirement in 2022; and

WHEREAS, Tom Bondurant continued to serve as a substitute judge and was a trusted mentor to countless younger attorneys and judges over the years; and

WHEREAS, among many awards and accolades, Tom Bondurant was inducted into the University of Richmond Athletics Hall of Fame with the Class of 2018, and he was recognized by the Richmond Bar Association for his legacy of contributions to the legal community; and

WHEREAS, Tom Bondurant will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife of 52 years, Christie; his daughters, Leigh and Ginnie, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of the Honorable Thomas O. Bondurant; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of the Honorable Thomas O. Bondurant as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
