HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 363
Commending the Bath County High School volleyball team.

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 17, 2012
Agreed to by the Senate, February 23, 2012

WHEREAS, down two games to none in the Group A, Division 1 state volleyball tournament, the Bath County High School team refused to accept defeat, fighting back to win the final three games and claim its first-ever state championship in the 2011 Virginia High School League competition; and

WHEREAS, this victory for the Bath County High School Chargers was all the sweeter coming after losses the previous two years in the state tournament, including a heartbreaking defeat in the 2009 championship match, which continued to motivate the team two years later; and

WHEREAS, the Bath County High School girls' volleyball team's march to victory in November included wins over John I. Burton High School in the state quarterfinals; the Chargers then traveled to Richmond for the semi-final match-up against Riverheads High School; and

WHEREAS, with those victories in hand, the Bath County High School Chargers, who are coached by Dave McGee, faced the Colonels of Altavista High School at the Stuart C. Siegel Center at Virginia Commonwealth University in the fight for the ultimate victory; and

WHEREAS, Coach McGee attributed the Bath County High School team's victory (23 - 25, 16 - 25, 25 - 14, 25 - 22, 15 - 11) to the strong competition the group faced in the regular season and to the group's intense focus on each individual game; and

WHEREAS, contributions from the entire team helped propel the Bath County High School Chargers to victory in the state championship match, with Katelyn Rice's three straight kills in game four helping to move the Chargers forward; Amanda Shifflett also had two kills in game five and her ace in that game sealed the victory; and

WHEREAS, the entire team—Jordan Fry, Mary McCoy, Allison Williams, Whitney Shifflett, Allyson Cutlip, Kendal Woodzell, Mikayla Miller, Chelsea Dudley, Bekkah Pauey, Katelyn Rice, Amanda Shifflett, Alexa Faraone, Ashley Rice, and Jessica O'Conner—led by Head Coach Dave McGee, worked hard throughout the entire season and tournament play; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Bath County High School volleyball team on its 2011 Virginia High School League Group A, Division 1 state championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Dave McGee, coach of the Bath County High School volleyball team, as an expression of the General Assembly's congratulations and admiration for the team's championship season.
