HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 418
Commending Loudoun Hunger Relief.

WHEREAS, Loudoun Hunger Relief, a food pantry based in Leesburg, has provided food assistance to the hungry and food insecure in Loudoun County for more than three decades; and

WHEREAS, Loudoun Hunger Relief traces its roots to 1991, when the Loudoun County Department of Social Services called a meeting of local churches that were operating food closets to present an idea for a central food distribution center; and

WHEREAS, a core group of volunteers formed a nonprofit organization after that meeting, and Loudoun Hunger Relief began operating in November 1991; and

WHEREAS, from its humble beginnings as a storefront in the Virginia Village Shopping Center, Loudoun Hunger Relief has grown to serve thousands of clients from two warehouses; and

WHEREAS, in 2023, Loudoun Hunger Relief served more than 13,000 individuals directly and an additional 600 to 800 families each week through distribution partners, representing hundreds of thousands of service interactions; and

WHEREAS, Loudoun Hunger Relief supplies perishable and nonperishable food items as well as non-food necessities as available; volunteers are trained to design packages with healthy ingredients to ensure balanced, nutritious meals; and

WHEREAS, Loudoun Hunger Relief is currently the largest food pantry in Loudoun County and partners with the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank and Feeding America to continue to meet the needs of the community; and

WHEREAS, Loudoun Hunger Relief has fulfilled its vital mission through the hard work of its staff members and volunteers and the support of generous donors and community partners; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Loudoun Hunger Relief for its decades of work to alleviate hunger in Loudoun County; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Loudoun Hunger Relief as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the organization's mission to ensure that everyone in the community has a sufficient amount of nutritious food.
