HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 5034
Commending the Virginia Tech wrestling team.

Agreed to by the Senate, April 3, 2013

WHEREAS, the Virginia Tech wrestling team had a stellar 2012 - 2013 season in which it broke numerous school and Atlantic Coast Conference records and finished 10th at the National Collegiate Athletic Association championships; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Tech wrestling team went 16 - 3 in dual meets and won the Atlantic Coast Conference regular season dual meet title and, for the first time in program history, the conference championship title; and

WHEREAS, Pete Yates was selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Wrestler of the Year and head coach Kevin Dresser was voted the conference's Coach of the Year; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Tech wrestling team won the West Region championship of the National Wrestling Coaches Association National Duals; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Tech wrestling team qualified a school-record 10 wrestlers for the National Collegiate Athletic Association championships, where it finished 10th, the highest finish in program history with the highest point total in program history; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Tech wrestling team had a school-record four All-Americans—senior Pete Yates, who finished fourth at 165 pounds to earn his second All-America medal, and Jarrod Garnett, Zach Neibert, and Nick Brascetta; and

WHEREAS, all of the Virginia Tech wrestling team members, under the leadership of head coach Kevin Dresser and his staff, worked hard through the season to bring honor and awards to the Hokie nation; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Tech wrestling team enjoyed the support of enthusiastic fans, students, faculty, staff, and administrators throughout the 2012 - 2013 season; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Virginia Tech wrestling team on its outstanding 2012 - 2013 season and 10th place finish at the National Collegiate Athletic Association championships; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Kevin Dresser, head coach of the Virginia Tech wrestling team, as an expression of the General Assembly's congratulations and admiration for the team's record-breaking season.
