WHEREAS, the Medicaid program authorized by Title XIX of the Social Security Act provides health coverage for low-income individuals; and
WHEREAS, federal law and regulations establishes certain parameters for the Medicaid program with which states must comply, and states have some flexibility in designing and administering their unique state programs of medical assistance; and
WHEREAS, Virginia has taken advantage of some of the options and opportunities available under federal law and regulations governing the Medicaid program but not all; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, the House of Delegates concurring, That the Governor be encouraged to enter into an agreement with the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services to extend to all eligible residents of the Commonwealth the full range of services, benefits, and programs available under federal law and regulations through the Medicaid program; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit a copy of this resolution to the Governor, requesting that the Governor further disseminate copies of this resolution to his respective constituents so that they may be apprised of the sense of the General Assembly of Virginia in this matter.
