HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 924
Commending T. Wayne Oakes.

WHEREAS, in 2010 T. Wayne Oakes announced his retirement from the position of Vice Mayor of the City of Danville; and

WHEREAS, a Pittsylvania County native, T. Wayne "Wayne" Oakes graduated from Dan River High School in 1957 and received his bachelor's degree from the University of Virginia in 1961; and

WHEREAS, as a talented and respected employee of DIMON, Inc., Wayne Oakes traveled extensively and spent several years stationed internationally in Switzerland and England; and

WHEREAS, following his retirement from DIMON, Inc., in 2000, Wayne Oakes became actively involved in the City of Danville and began volunteering for numerous boards and commissions; and

WHEREAS, Wayne Oakes has diligently immersed himself in service to his community with a commendable level of dedication and commitment; and

WHEREAS, Wayne Oakes serves on the Averett University Board of Trustees, the Danville-Pittsylvania County Community Foundation, and with the Dan River Business Development Center; and

WHEREAS, Wayne Oakes also contributes to the boards of the Epiphany Episcopal School, Danville Tourism Board, Averett University Foundation, and the Danville Employees' Retirement System; and

WHEREAS, since 2004, Wayne Oakes served as a valuable, contributing member of the Danville City Council; and

WHEREAS, upon his retirement, Wayne Oakes expressed his pride at being a citizen of Danville, commended city leaders for ongoing efforts to revitalize the economy and strategically position the city for the future, and thanked members of the community for their support; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend T. Wayne Oakes on the occasion of his retirement as Vice Mayor of the City of Danville; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to T. Wayne Oakes as an expression of the General Assembly's appreciation for his service to his community.
