WHEREAS, for 100 years, Howell's Grocery Store and Restaurant has provided groceries and home-cooked meals to local residents while building a strong place of community in Patrick County; and
WHEREAS, founded in 1924, Howell's Grocery is owned and operated by a local family with deep roots in Patrick County and has been a longtime fixture of area life, offering groceries and convenience goods, a unique full-service gas station, and a hot meal with friends and family; and
WHEREAS, located at the intersection of U.S. Route 58 and State Route 8, Howell's Grocery has stood the test of time as a classic highway outpost, serving generations of local families, as well as loggers, mill workers, road crews, tourists, and other travelers; and
WHEREAS, over the course of its history, Howell's Grocery has provided generous outreach to local residents in need, fostering strong relationships within the community to serve others; and
WHEREAS, on May 4, 2024, Howell's Grocery will commemorate its milestone 100th anniversary with a special celebration featuring music, food, door prizes, and stories from years past; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Howell's Grocery and Restaurant hereby be commended on the occasion of its 100th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Howell's Grocery Store and Restaurant as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for its legacy of contributions to the Patrick County community.
