HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 224
Celebrating the life of William Jesse Choate.
 
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 4, 2024
 

WHEREAS, William Jesse Choate, a distinguished public servant and beloved community leader of Sugar Grove in Smyth County, died on January 30, 2024; and

WHEREAS, Jesse Choate gave generously of his time in service to others as a longtime member of the Sugar Grove Fire Department and Lifesaving Crew, Rye Valley Ruritan Club, and Sugar Grove Young Farmers; and

WHEREAS, Jesse Choate devoted 33 years to the Smyth County School Board, including 18 as chair, working tirelessly to improve the local school system for the benefit and well-being of its students, teachers, support staff, and administrators; and

WHEREAS, Jesse Choate made a meaningful difference in Smyth County residents' lives through his involvement with the Friends of the Smyth-Bland Regional Library, the local Little League, Rye Valley Young at Heart, Inc., Relay for Life, and the Smyth County Community Hospital; and

WHEREAS, guided throughout his life by his faith, Jesse Choate enjoyed worship and fellowship with his community at Elizabeth Methodist Church in Sugar Grove, where he served as a trustee; and

WHEREAS, Jesse Choate will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his loving wife of 47 years, Carol, and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of William Jesse Choate, a true servant of God, family, country and his community, who touched countless lives in Smyth County and beyond; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of William Jesse Choate as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
