HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 305
Celebrating the life of the Reverend Lloyd A. Cosby, Jr.
 
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 5, 2024
 

WHEREAS, the Reverend Lloyd A. Cosby, Jr., of Richmond, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather and a dedicated pastor and mentor, died on February 15, 2024; and

WHEREAS, Lloyd Cosby, affectionately known to family and friends as Peewee, was born in Richmond and attended local public schools, graduating from Armstrong High School; and

WHEREAS, at the age of 18, Lloyd Cosby was drafted by the United States Army and served the nation in combat during the Vietnam War, earning the Army Commendation Medal and the Air Medal; and

WHEREAS, after his honorable military service, Lloyd Cosby returned to the Commonwealth and pursued a 40-year career with the United States Postal Service; and

WHEREAS, Lloyd Cosby was guided by his faith to begin serving as a Sunday school teacher and deacon at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Powhatan and later enrolled at Virginia Union University, from which he received a master of divinity degree; and

WHEREAS, Lloyd Cosby served as the pastor of Mount Nebo Baptist Church in Midlothian for seven years, then pastored the congregation of Zion Union Baptist Church in Charlottesville for 16 years until his retirement in 2023; and

WHEREAS, Lloyd Cosby strove to build meaningful relationships with everyone around him, and he relished every opportunity to spend time with his beloved family; and

WHEREAS, Lloyd Cosby will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Maria; his daughters, Felicia, Chelsea, and Chynna, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of the Reverend Lloyd A. Cosby, Jr.; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of the Reverend Lloyd A. Cosby, Jr., as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
