HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 382
Commending the Highland Springs High School football team.
 
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 8, 2024
 

WHEREAS, the Highland Springs High School football team won the Virginia High School League Class 6 state semifinal in 2023 ; and

WHEREAS, the Highland Springs High School Springers defeated the Lake Braddock Secondary School Bruins by a score of 35–10; and

WHEREAS, the Highland Springs Springers took an early lead when running back Eric Byrd broke away on a 54-yard run and scored a touchdown; and

WHEREAS, after Lake Braddock's next possession ended with an interception, the Highland Springs Springers capitalized on the good field position and Cole Varner extended the lead to 14–0 with another rushing touchdown, which turned out to be the game winner; and

WHEREAS, the Highland Springs Springers advanced to the Virginia High School League Class 6 state championship, their seventh trip to a state final in nine seasons, where they faced the Freedom High School Eagles and finished as state runner-up; and

WHEREAS, the successful season was a tribute to the skill and hard work of all the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of coaches and staff, and the passionate support of the entire Highland Springs High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Highland Springs High School football team hereby be commended on winning the Virginia High School League Class 6 state semifinal; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Highland Springs High School football team as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the team's achievements.
