WHEREAS, Lake Braddock Secondary School of Fairfax County Public Schools received the Virginia Purple Star Designation from the Virginia Department of Education and the Virginia Council on the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children in 2023; and
WHEREAS, Lake Braddock Secondary School has been designated a Purple Star school in recognition of its efforts to be a military-friendly school that is committed to the needs of military-connected students and their families; and
WHEREAS, to qualify for the Purple Star designation, Lake Braddock Secondary School was required to have a staff member dedicated to serving as a point of contact for military students and families who had completed certain Virginia Department of Education training modules and who had conducted a school-wide professional development program to inform staff of the unique needs of military-connected students and the supports available to them; and
WHEREAS, Lake Braddock Secondary School also demonstrated its commitment to meeting the needs of military-connected students and families by providing other resources and programming relevant to their special circumstances, such as assistance with academic planning and transitions between schools, districts, and states, to earn the Purple Star designation; and
WHEREAS, the extraordinary efforts of administrators, educators, and families at Lake Braddock Secondary School to make the school a more welcoming and accommodating place for military-connected students and families have improved the quality of life for many and are deserving of the admiration and respect of all Virginians; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Lake Braddock Secondary School hereby be commended for receiving the Virginia Purple Star Designation from the Virginia Department of Education and the Virginia Council on the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children in 2023; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Lake Braddock Secondary School as an expression of the House of Delegates' high regard for the school's accomplishments in service to the Commonwealth's military families.
