HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 410
Commending Antioch Baptist Church.
 
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 8, 2024
 

WHEREAS, for 35 years, Antioch Baptist Church in Fairfax Station has provided opportunities for spiritual growth and joyful worship to the members of its congregation and generous outreach to the wider community; and

WHEREAS, Antioch Baptist Church was founded on January 8, 1989, and held its first service in the Salvation Army Chapel on Ox Road; the Reverend John Q. Gibbs served as the founding pastor until his death in 1995; and

WHEREAS, the Reverend Dr. Marshal L. Ausberry, who had been mentored by Reverend Gibbs, was selected as the interim pastor and formally elected as pastor of Antioch Baptist Church on September 6, 1995; and

WHEREAS, under the leadership of Reverend Ausberry, the Antioch Baptist Church congregation continued to thrive and became well-known as a warm and welcoming church that was deeply engaged in community life; and

WHEREAS, at the local level, Reverend Ausberry oversaw the creation of ministries to serve the homeless, sick or elderly community members, and incarcerated people, and he directed Antioch Baptist Church to launch missionary programs in Haiti and other countries around the world; and

WHEREAS, prior to his retirement on June 30, 2022, Reverend Ausberry expanded the Antioch Baptist Church campus and presided over the construction of the Ministry Center; and

WHEREAS, on December 1, 2023, the Reverend Dr. Kevin B. Taylor became the pastor-elect of Antioch Baptist Church; his decades of experience in ministry and passionate commitment to education will help the church continue to grow in faith and number and remain an integral part of local life in Fairfax Station; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Antioch Baptist Church hereby be commended on the occasion of its 35th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Reverend Dr. Kevin B. Taylor, pastor of Antioch Baptist Church, as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the church's contributions to the Fairfax Station community.
