HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 566
Celebrating the life of Arlene Williams Garrett.

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, August 17, 2015

WHEREAS, Arlene Williams Garrett, an entrepreneur and proud public servant who worked to strengthen and enhance the Buena Vista community, died on July 17, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Arlene Garrett graduated from Parry McCluer High School and found employment with Lees Carpets in Glasgow; she and her family also owned and operated Four Seasons Florist and Gifts for 26 years; and

WHEREAS, taking a special interest in the youth of the community, Arlene Garrett became a member of the parent-teacher association and a room mother for Buena Vista Public Schools; she was appointed and later elected to the Buena Vista City School Board, on which she served as vice chair and chair; and

WHEREAS, Arlene Garrett encouraged others to do their civic duty as the voter registrar for the City of Buena Vista for 14 years, and she volunteered her time and talents with other civic and service groups in Buena Vista; and

WHEREAS, a woman who lived her faith through her actions, Arlene Garrett enjoyed fellowship and worship with the community as a lifelong member of Buena Vista Presbyterian Church, where she held several leadership positions and had achieved 50 years of perfect attendance in Sunday school; and

WHEREAS, Arlene Garrett will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her loving husband, William; son, Clay, and his family; daughters, Debbie and Betty Jo; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Arlene Williams Garrett, an entrepreneur and public servant in the City of Buena Vista; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Arlene Williams Garrett as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for her memory.
