A BILL to amend the Code of Virginia by adding a section numbered 18.2-502.3, relating to false statements to members of the General Assembly; state employees and persons serving in appointed positions.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 18.2-502.3 as follows:

§18.2-502.3. False statements to members of the General Assembly; state employees.

Any state employee or person serving in an appointed position who knowingly and willfully makes any materially false statement or representation to a member of the General Assembly who is in the course of conducting an inquiry or investigation in his official capacity or on behalf of any committee or subcommittee of the Senate or House of Delegates is guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor.

As used in this section,

"Appointed position" means a position appointed by the Governor.

"State employee" means any person who is regularly employed full-time or part-time on a salaried or wage basis and whose compensation is payable, in whole or in part by, the Commonwealth or any department, institution, or agency thereof.
