WHEREAS, the West Potomac High School dance team was named Grand Champion at the Kings Dominion Cheer and Dance Fest; and WHEREAS, as a result of this significant dance accomplishment, the West Potomac High School dance team qualified to compete in the National Dance Alliance National Championship in Orlando, Florida, in March; and WHEREAS, the West Potomac dance team stays busy for much of the school year performing at football and basketball games, and the 24 women and one man on the team have the self-discipline and motivation necessary to maintain good academic standing; more than 80 percent of the team has a 3.5 grade point average or higher; and WHEREAS, as interest in the team has grown, a junior varsity squad of 14 dancers was added to entertain fans at West Potomac High School games; both teams, with their talented and dedicated performers, work hard to perfect routines that showcase the group's exciting choreography and high-energy dance moves; and WHEREAS, the West Potomac dance team often performs at community and school functions and serves as a mentor to the dancers at Carl Sandburg Middle School; team members also teach at junior dance team workshops; and WHEREAS, the enthusiasm and verve exhibited by the members of the championship West Potomac High School dance team carries over into other parts of school life; some members sing in select chorus groups, others are members of academic groups, and some play sports; and WHEREAS, the dance team, with its peppy lineup of routines and exuberant choreography, is an admirable ambassador for West Potomac High School; the troupe's enthusiasm and energy assure that it will proudly represent Fairfax County and the Commonwealth of Virginia; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the West Potomac High School dance team on its winning performance and its entry into the National Dance Alliance National Championship competition; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Gennifer Difilippo, coach of the West Potomac High School dance team, as an expression of the General Assembly's congratulations and best wishes for future success. |
