Commending Daniel G. "Bud" Oakey.

WHEREAS, Daniel G. "Bud" Oakey, chair, founder, and managing director of Advantus Strategies, LLC, a Richmond-based government affairs firm that specializes in providing business-to-government consulting services at the local, state, and federal level, has made a lasting and meaningful impact on the Commonwealth over his career; and

WHEREAS, Bud Oakey attended Purdue University Northwest, majoring in manufacturing engineering; and

WHEREAS, Bud Oakey worked for various companies as a shop foreman, field engineer, and manager before landing a job as the director of the 1984 Louisiana World Exposition and transitioning to a career in consulting; and

WHEREAS, Bud Oakey acquired valuable consulting experience over the years in distinguished roles, including as Louisiana press secretary for President George H.W. Bush's 1988 election campaign, vice president of the Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce, and member of Governor James S. Gilmore's transition team; and

WHEREAS, Bud Oakey has represented business interests before the General Assembly since 1989 and established Advantus Strategies in 1998 to further these efforts; and

WHEREAS, over the past several decades, Bud Oakey has worked tirelessly as an advocate and advisor to numerous clients with a connection to the government at the local, state, or federal level, and he has been an active participant in numerous transportation and economic development projects in the Commonwealth and other states; and

WHEREAS, Bud Oakey has offered his knowledge and expertise as an appointed member of several advisory committees of the Joint Commission on Science and Technology and has served as president of the Virginia Aviation Business Association since 2016; and

WHEREAS, Bud Oakey is a pilot and a lieutenant colonel in the Virginia Wing, Civil Air Patrol, United States Air Force Auxiliary, and he has created a public policy internship program to introduce Civil Air Patrol cadets to the significance of citizen involvement in a bicameral legislative process; and

WHEREAS, in 2024, Bud Oakey worked with Lt. Governor Winsome Earle-Sears to re-establish the Virginia General Assembly Aviation and Aerospace Caucus to explore growth opportunities for these important sectors in the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, whether by developing business strategies, managing public relations, or influencing public policy, Bud Oakey secures results for his clients that advance their missions and improve their bottom lines, contributing greatly to the growth and prosperity of the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Daniel G. "Bud" Oakey for his legacy of service as chair, founder, and managing director of Advantus Strategies, LLC; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Daniel G. "Bud" Oakey as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his contributions to the Commonwealth.
