SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 52
Celebrating the life of Jackie (Jack) Duckette Hunter.

WHEREAS, Jackie Duckette Hunter, a distinguished veteran of the United States Air Force and a devoted volunteer leader who worked to enhance the quality of life in Newport News and throughout Hampton Roads, died on August 28, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Jackie "Jack" Hunter grew up in Rock Hill, South Carolina, and attended Emmett Scott High School, where he was a saxophone player in the marching band; he continued his education at Denmark Technical College, earning a degree as a master electrician, then joined the United States Air Force; and

WHEREAS, over the course of his 22-year career in the military, Jack Hunter participated in Operation Desert Shield during the First Gulf War and was posted to bases in Virginia and Florida, as well as England, Panama, and South Korea; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of his outstanding service to the nation, Jack Hunter received the Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Air Force Good Conduct Medal, with six oak leaf clusters, and many other awards and decorations; and

WHEREAS, Jack Hunter retired from the United States Air Force with the rank of master sergeant, then held leadership positions at various companies, including Gateway Computers, where he greatly enjoyed his time supporting team members as a supervisor; and

WHEREAS, in 2005, having earned his real estate license decades earlier, Jack Hunter changed careers and became a full-time certified property manager for REMAX Peninsula in Newport News, where he served until the time of his passing; and

WHEREAS, Jack Hunter volunteered his leadership and expertise to 100 Black Men of Virginia Peninsula, where he served as co-chair of the annual scholarship gala and was passionate about mentoring and inspiring youth members; and

WHEREAS, Jack Hunter also worked to enhance community life through the Virginia Peninsula Association of Realtors, the Hampton Chapter of The Links, Inc., and many other organizations; and

WHEREAS, Jack Hunter cultivated his faith at a young age as a member of Mount Prospect Baptist Church in South Carolina, and he remained an active member of the congregation throughout his life; and

WHEREAS, Jack Hunter was an avid world traveler who visited Jamaica, Mexico, Barbados, Bolivia, Ecuador, Argentina, Germany, France, and many other destinations with a group of close friends; and

WHEREAS, Jack Hunter will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his beloved wife of 37 years, Bonita; his daughter, Niquel, and her family; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Jackie Duckette Hunter, a respected veteran and a highly admired member of the Newport News community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Jackie Duckette Hunter as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
