SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 8
Celebrating the life of Ronald Lee Jett.

WHEREAS, Ronald Lee Jett, an accomplished businessman, esteemed public servant, dedicated first responder, and beloved member of the Heathsville community, died on August 5, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Ronald "Ronnie" Jett devoted many years to the success of his businesses, Smith Point Seafood and Cockrell's Creek Seafood and Deli in Reedville, providing his customers and clients with a friendly and reliable source for high-quality crab meat and other food items; and

WHEREAS, Ronnie Jett supported the well-being of his community as a life member and former captain of the Northumberland County Rescue Squad, earning the Michael B. Player Award from the Peninsulas Emergency Medical Services Council, Inc., for excellence in emergency medical services; and

WHEREAS, Ronnie Jett joined the Fairfields Volunteer Fire Department in 1981 and became a life member of the organization in 2019 after dedicating nearly four decades to the safety and security of his community; and

WHEREAS, for nearly 28 years, Ronnie Jett proudly served his constituents as the District 5 representative on the Northumberland County Board of Supervisors, including 18 years as chairman, six years as vice chairman, 18 years as emergency services director, and 23 years as the board's liaison to the Northern Neck Regional Jail; and

WHEREAS, in his role as a public servant, Ronnie Jett was instrumental to many important initiatives that enhanced the quality of life in Northumberland County, including the implementation of an enhanced 9-1-1 system, fundraising for a regional fire department burn building, and the construction of new schools, ball fields, and a sheriff's office; and

WHEREAS, when not managing his businesses or serving the community, Ronnie Jett could often be found savoring the good life by spending time with his children and grandchildren or cruising out on his boat; and

WHEREAS, Ronnie Jett will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his loving wife, Linda; his children, Carrie, Kelly, Kristi, and Carlina; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Ronald Lee Jett, a cherished member of the Northumberland County community whose legacy of generosity and service will inspire others for many years to come; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Ronald Lee Jett as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
