SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 117
Commending Jim Snavely.

 

Agreed to by the Senate, March 6, 2024

 

WHEREAS, Jim Snavely, a radio personality and local legend who has delighted generations of listeners in the Shenandoah Valley as a morning show host on WBTX 1470, retired in 2023 after 56 years of service; and

WHEREAS, Jim Snavely grew up on a dairy farm in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and developed a love of country music and a passion for radio from a young age; and

WHEREAS, in the mid-1960s, Jim Snavely learned more about the radio industry when he developed a group of friends who worked part-time at a nearby Christian radio station, and a few years later, he began working at a station based in Boyertown, Pennsylvania; and

WHEREAS, Jim Snavely excelled in his new career and inherited the lead position for a morning show called the Milk Bucket Serenade, which he hosted for several years; and

WHEREAS, after the radio station was sold to new ownership, Jim Snavely followed his former boss to Broadway in Rockingham County and joined WBTX 1470; and

WHEREAS, Jim Snavely hosted the morning show from 5:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., programming gospel and bluegrass music and using his own experiences with farm life to provide outstanding journalism focused on local and agricultural news; and

WHEREAS, Jim Snavely adapted to significant changes in the radio industry, from the use of vinyl records to compact discs to digital automation, but always maintained his passion for service and appreciated the importance of developing relevant and engaging content to connect with listeners; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Jim Snavely hereby be commended on the occasion of his retirement as a radio host and journalist; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Jim Snavely as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for his decades of contributions to the residents of the Shenandoah Valley.
