A BILL to amend the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, by adding thereto a new article, designated §16-2P-1, relating to requiring physicians to notify parents when prescribing contraceptives to minors; and providing definitions.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:

ARTICLE 2P. PARENTAL NOTIFICATION OF PRESCRIBED CONTRACEPTIVES.


§16-2P-1. Contraceptives; parental notice; definitions.


(a) A physician located within this state shall provide parental notification when prescribing a contraceptive to a minor.

(b) For the purposes of this section:

 “Contraceptive" means a drug or device approved by the food and drug administration to prevent pregnancy.

“Minor” means a person under the age of 18 years who has not graduated from high school.

 

NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to require physicians to notify parents when prescribing contraceptives to minors. The bill provides definitions.
