AN ACT

 

amending section 15‑201, Arizona Revised Statutes; relating to the state board of education.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1.  Section 15-201, Arizona Revised Statutes, is amended to read:

START_STATUTE15-201.  State board of education; members; appointment; terms; removal

A.  The state board of education shall be composed of the superintendent of public instruction, the president of a state university or a state college, three lay members, a president or chancellor of a community college district, a superintendent of a high school district, a classroom teacher and a county school superintendent.  A member who is a president of a state university or a state college shall not succeed himself.

B.  The governor shall appoint each member, other than the superintendent of public instruction, pursuant to section 38‑211 for a term of four years beginning on the third Monday in January.

C.  The senate may remove a member of the state board of education from office at any time if at least two‑thirds of the members of the senate votes to remove the member from office.  When the senate removes a member of the state board of education, the secretary of the senate shall deliver a copy of the resolution of removal, certified by the president of the senate, to the secretary of state, who shall notify the governor.
