AN ACT

 

amending Title 15, chapter 2, article 2, Arizona Revised Statutes, by adding section 15-249.07; relating to the school vehicles.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1.  Title 15, chapter 2, article 2, Arizona Revised Statutes, is amended by adding section 15-249.07, to read:

START_STATUTE15-249.07.  School vehicles; global positioning systems

On or before September 1, 2018, the department of education shall require that all vehicles that are owned, leased, operated by or that provide transportation services to a school district or charter school, and that are funded in whole or in part with state monies, be equipped with a global positioning system and a reporting system that are approved by the department.  The global positioning system and reporting system shall be capable of accurately recording daily mileage for each vehicle and accurately submitting that information to the department for the purpose of verifying daily route mileage and other costs.  The department shall approve global positioning systems and reporting systems pursuant to this section that comply with specific industry standards for the trucking and transportation industries.
