HOUSE BILL 2163

 

 

 

AN ACT

 

amending title 41, chapter 1, article 1, Arizona Revised Statutes, by adding section 41‑115; relating to the governor's statutory review committee.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1.  Title 41, chapter 1, article 1, Arizona Revised Statutes, is amended by adding section 41-115, to read:

START_STATUTE41-115.  Governor's statutory review committee; membership; duties; report; committee termination

A.  The governor's statutory review committee is established consisting of the following members:

1.  One member of the senate who is appointed by the president of the senate and who shall serve as cochairperson of the committee.

2.  One member of the house of representatives who is appointed by the speaker of the house of representatives and who shall serve as cochairperson of the committee.

3.  two members who represent cities and towns and who are appointed by the governor.

4.  two members who represent the business community and who are appointed by the governor.

5.  one public member who is appointed by the governor.

B.  The governor, the president of the senate and the speaker of the house of representatives shall strive to achieve a bipartisan balance in the membership of the committee.

C.  members of the committee shall serve one‑year terms.

D.  Committee members are not eligible to receive compensation but are eligible for reimbursement of expenses under title 38, chapter 4, article 2.

E.  The committee may:

1.  Review any statute and determine whether the statute is necessary and whether the statute needs to be amended or repealed.

2.  Hold hearings and take public comment.

F.  The committee shall submit a report regarding the committee's activities and recommendations for legislative action on or before December 15 of each year to the governor, the president of the senate and the speaker of the house of representatives.  the committee shall provide a copy of the report to the secretary of state.

G.  The committee established by this section ends on July 1, 2024 PURSUANT to section 41‑3103. END_STATUTE
