CALIFORNIA LEGISLATURE— 2023–2024 REGULAR SESSION

Assembly Bill
No. 2726

Introduced by Assembly Member Flora

February 14, 2024

An act relating to health care coverage.

LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST

AB 2726, as introduced, Flora. Health care coverage: access to specialty care.
Existing law, the Knox-Keene Health Care Service Plan Act of 1975, provides for the licensure and regulation of health care service plans by the Department of Managed Health Care and makes a willful violation of the act a crime. Existing law requires health care service plans to meet specified requirements, including establishing a procedure by which a covered individual may receive a standing referral to a specialist.
This bill would state that it is the intent of the Legislature to enact legislation to increase access to specialty care to support whole-person care among California’s most medically complex patients facing significant adverse social drivers of health.
Vote: MAJORITY   Appropriation: NO   Fiscal Committee: NO   Local Program: NO

The people of the State of California do enact as follows:

SECTION 1.

It is the intent of the Legislature to enact legislation to increase access to specialty care to support whole-person care among California’s most medically complex patients facing significant adverse social drivers of health.
