AN ACT CONCERNING CERTIFICATION OF SERIOUSLY ILL UTILITY CUSTOMERS BY OPTOMETRISTS.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That section 16-262d of the general statutes be amended to allow optometrists to certify to an electric, electric distribution, gas, telephone or water company, electric supplier or municipal utility furnishing electric, gas or water service that a resident of a dwelling is seriously ill and that such service should not be terminated for nonpayment.

Statement of Purpose:

To permit an optometrist to certify a resident of a dwelling is seriously ill by expanding current law that permits only a registered physician or an advanced practice registered nurse to provide the certification.
