AN ACT CONCERNING THE USE OF ELECTRONIC DEFENSE WEAPONS.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

Section 1. (Effective from passage) (a) The Police Officer Standards and Training Council shall conduct a study of the use of electronic defense weapons, as defined in section 53a-3 of the general statutes, by police officers in the performance of their duties. Such study shall consider the development and implementation of training requirements for police officers who use such weapons and guidelines concerning the use of such weapons including, but not limited to, the circumstances when such weapons should not be used and vulnerable persons against whom the use of such weapons is not advised.

(b) The council shall report its findings and recommendations to the joint standing committee of the General Assembly on the judiciary, in accordance with the provisions of section 11-4a of the general statutes, not later than February 1, 2012.

This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following sections:
