ENROLLED 2010 Legislature SB 502, 1st Engrossed 2010502er 1 2 An act relating to special investigators; amending s. 3 27.251, F.S.; deleting a requirement that 4 investigators be employed on a full-time basis; 5 specifying matters that may be investigated by special 6 investigators; providing an effective date. 7 8 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 9 10 Section 1. Section 27.251, Florida Statutes, is amended to 11 read: 12 27.251 Specialorganized crimeinvestigators.—The state 13 attorney of each judicial circuit is authorized to employ any 14 municipal or county police officer or sheriff’s deputyon a15full-time basisas an investigator for the state attorney’s 16 office with full powers of arrest throughout the judicial 17 circuit provided such investigator serves on a special task 18 force to investigate matters involving criminal activity the 19 detection of which might benefit from a special task force 20organized crime,and,provided further,that the salary of such 21 municipal or county police officer or sheriff’s deputy shall be 22 paid by the city, county, or sheriff by which the investigator 23 is principally employed, and with the consent of the county, 24 sheriff, or municipality. The arrest powers granted in this 25 section mayherein shallbe exercised only in the furtherance of 26 the conduct of the business of the special task force to which 27 such municipal or county police officer or sheriff’s deputy is 28 assigned by thesaidstate attorney. 29 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2010.
