1                        A bill to be entitled 
2         An act relating to school food services; providing a 
3         short title; amending s. 1006.06, F.S.; providing that 
4         district school board policies for the operation of 
5         school food service programs include the requirement 
6         that schools provide and post nutritional information 
7         for daily meals; amending s. 1006.0606, F.S.; 
8         requiring each school district with a summer nutrition 
9         program to provide and post nutritional information 
10         for daily meals; providing an effective date. 
11 
12  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 
13 
14         Section 1. This act may be cited as the “Cafeteria 
15  Nutritional Awareness Act.” 
16         Section 2. Subsection (3) of section 1006.06, Florida 
17  Statutes, is amended to read: 
18         1006.06 School food service programs.— 
19         (3) Each district school board shall consider the 
20  recommendations of the district school superintendent and adopt 
21  policies to provide for an appropriate food and nutrition 
22  program for students consistent with federal law and State Board 
23  of Education rule. The policies shall include the requirement 
24  that accurate and adequate information regarding the nutritional 
25  content and value of daily meals be provided to parents and 
26  students. Such information shall be posted in a prominent place 
27  in the cafeteria in each school and shall include, but not be 
28  limited to, the sugar, fat, calorie, and vitamin contents in 
29  each breakfast and lunch meal and the companies that provide the 
30  food and beverages to the school. 
31         Section 3. Subsection (6) is added to section 1006.0606, 
32  Florida Statutes, to read: 
33         1006.0606 Children’s summer nutrition program.— 
34         (6) Each school district that has a summer nutrition 
35  program shall provide accurate and adequate information 
36  regarding the nutritional content and value of daily meals to 
37  parents and students. Such information shall be posted in a 
38  prominent place in each school that is participating in the 
39  summer nutrition program and shall include, but not be limited 
40  to, the sugar, fat, calorie, and vitamin contents in each 
41  breakfast and lunch meal and the companies that provide the food 
42  and beverages. 
43         Section 4. This act shall take effect July 1, 2010.
