A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

To amend Article 1 of Chapter 1 of Title 31 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to general provisions relating to health, so as to provide for the distribution of informational videos on health related topics by hospitals and other health care facilities to mothers of newborn infants; to provide for a definition; to provide that such requirement is contingent on available funding; to provide for related matters; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:

SECTION 1.
Article 1 of Chapter 1 of Title 31 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to general provisions relating to health, is amended by adding a new Code section to read as follows:
"31-1-11.
(a) As used in this Code section, the term 'medical facility' means a hospital, birthing center, or other health care facility where human births occur on a regular and ongoing basis.
(b) The department shall distribute informational videos in an appropriate format to each medical facility in order to provide the information described in this Code section to each mother of a newborn infant born in such medical facility. Each medical facility shall provide an opportunity for each mother to view the video while in the medical facility and shall also provide a copy of such video to the mother at the time of her release from the medical facility.
(c) Such videos shall include information on proper nutrition for infants and children, exercise, and other health related topics beneficial to a mother of a newborn child. All information included in the video shall be approved by the department. The department shall produce and duplicate such videos or may accept the donation of such videos from outside sources at its discretion.
(d) This Code section shall be subject to available funding to the department for such purposes. State funding, federal funding, or private donations may be used to produce, copy, and distribute the videos provided pursuant to this Code section."

SECTION 2.
