A RESOLUTION


Honoring the life and memory of Mrs. Missouri Gipson Talley; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens with the passing of Mrs. Missouri Gipson Talley on August 5, 2008; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Talley was born on June 2, 1917, in Prattville, Alabama, the beloved daughter of the late Henry Edward Gipson and Lillian McNeill Gipson; and

WHEREAS, she graduated from Huntington College in 1937, where she was very active in student activities, held leadership positions, served as a class officer, and was a member of the Chi Delta Phi honorary society; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Talley was dedicated to inspiring and challenging young minds as evidenced by her work in the public schools of Tampa and Waycross and she helped establish and lead the first school in Waycross for children with special education needs; and

WHEREAS, devoted to her faith and community, Mrs. Talley was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Aurthur Moore Sunday School Class, the American Association of University Women, the Dutch Treat Club, and the Lakeside Ladies Golf Association; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Talley was united in love and marriage for 58 wonderful years to her husband, the late Carl Patrick Talley, and she was blessed with five children, 12 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, she gave inspiration to many through her high ideals, morals, and deep concern for her fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding she demonstrated to her family and friends was admired by others; and

WHEREAS, she was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example she made of her life, she made this world a better place in which to live; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Talley will long be remembered for her love family and friendship, and this loyal mother, grandmother, and friend will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing her.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Mrs. Missouri Gipson Talley and express their deepest and most sincere regret at her passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Mrs. Missouri Gipson Talley.
