RESOLUTION
Commending
Dr. Emily Lembeck and inviting her to be recognized by the House of
Representatives; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Dr. Emily Lembeck has been named as the 2012 Georgia Superintendent of the Year,
this being the third year that she has been a finalist for this award;
and
WHEREAS,
she served as associate superintendent for Curriculum and Operations of Marietta
City Schools from 2001 until her appointment as superintendent in 2005;
and
WHEREAS,
in 2010, Dr. Lembeck launched
Marietta
Reads!, a city-wide effort to foster
reading and literacy which helped Marietta illustrate how it has increased
student test scores and book circulation and consequently led to Marietta's
selection as an All-American City at the 2006 National Civic League AAC
competition; and
WHEREAS,
she is an active member of many professional committees and organizations,
including the Cobb Chamber of Commerce Leadership Cobb Class of 2000, the
Kiwanis Club of Marietta, Cobb Executive Women, Cobb Chamber of Commerce, and
Cobb Education Consortium; and
WHEREAS,
she serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Georgia School
Superintendents Association and represents Georgia as a member of the Governing
Board of the American Association of School Administrators; and
WHEREAS,
she was most recently named Woman of the Year 2008 by the Cobb chapter of the
American Association of University Women and was a recipient of the Professional
Achievement Award from the University of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
her focus is on meeting the needs of all students, regardless of what those
needs are, and with her leadership skills, the schools have been able to
overcome unprecedented challenges while continuing to excel in student
achievement; and
WHEREAS,
she has implemented leading-edge instructional programs, such as the
International Baccalaureate Program district wide,
Marietta
Reads!, and elementary school choice;
and
WHEREAS,
since becoming superintendent, the percentage of students in grades three
through eight exceeding standards in one or more areas of the CRCT has increased
16.4 percent, and the graduation rate has increased 11 percent; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Lembeck has consistently garnered praise from the members of the Marietta
Board of Education for involving them, the staff, and the community in
formulating and implementing new ideas; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Emily Lembeck has long been recognized by the citizens of this state as a
leader with a deep personal commitment to her students.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend the efforts of Dr. Emily Lembeck and invite her to be
recognized by the House of Representatives at a date and time designated by the
Speaker of the House.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dr. Emily
Lembeck.
