A
RESOLUTION
Commending
the Boy Scouts of America program and recognizing February 8, 2010, as "Boy
Scouts of America 100 Years of Scouting Day"; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Boy Scouts of America was established in 1910 to teach patriotism, courage,
self-reliance, and kindred values; and
WHEREAS,
scouting evolved during the early 1900's through the efforts of several men
dedicated to bettering youth who conceived a program of outdoor activities that
developed skills in young boys and gave them a sense of enjoyment, fellowship,
and a code of conduct for everyday living; and
WHEREAS,
the Boy Scouts of America today is the largest youth service organization in
America, with nearly three million members learning responsible citizenship,
character development, and self-reliance through participation in a wide range
of outdoor activities, educational programs, and career-oriented programs in
partnership with community organizations; and
WHEREAS,
the Boy Scouts of America endeavors to develop American citizens who are
physically, mentally, and emotionally fit; have a high degree of self-reliance
as evidenced in such qualities as initiative, courage, and resourcefulness; have
personal values based on religious concepts; have the desire and skills to help
others; understand the principles of the American social, economic, and
governmental systems; are knowledgeable about and take pride in their American
heritage and understand our nation's role in the world; have a keen respect for
the basic rights of all people; and are prepared to participate in and give
leadership to American society; and
WHEREAS,
thousands of volunteer leaders across the United States, both men and women, are
involved in the Boy Scout program, serving in a variety of jobs, from unit
leaders to chairmen of troop committees and committee members, merit badge
counselors, and chartered organization representatives; and
WHEREAS,
the Boy Scouts of America is the nation's foremost program of character
development and values based leadership training for youth, fostering the
philosophy of duty to God, country, and self and a commitment to others through
a comprehensive program of responsible fun, outdoor adventure, and service
projects; and
WHEREAS,
in 2010, the Boy Scouts of America program celebrates its centennial
anniversary, demonstrating 100 years of its core value of service to others;
and
WHEREAS,
such a worthwhile program deserves respect, admiration, gratitude, and
commendation for the impact it has had and continues to have on the character of
the youth of this state and this nation.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the Boy Scouts of
America are hereby commended for their many achievements and contributions to
the welfare of this state, and February 8, 2010, is hereby recognized as "Boy
Scouts of America 100 Years of Scouting Day."
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is
authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to
the Boy Scouts of America program.
