A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Mr. Larry Pratt on the occasion of his retirement as City Manager of Adairsville; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. Larry Pratt has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Pratt has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his time, talents, and energy toward the betterment of his community and state as evidenced dramatically by his superlative service with the City of Adairsville since 1975; and

WHEREAS, he began his distinguished career with the city as a meter reader for the water department and after a few years was named utilities superintendent, a position he maintained for 22 years; and

WHEREAS, in 2002, Mr. Pratt was named city administrator and was appointed city manager in 2006, where he has served with honor and distinction for the last four years; and

WHEREAS, during his tenure with the City of Adairsville, Mr. Pratt has been instrumental in establishing the Georgia One-Call system for underground utilities in Georgia, securing legislation that formed the Municipal Gas Authority of Georgia, developing an updated budget system, and growing the city and Northwest Georgia's utilities infrastructure; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Pratt was responsible for creating new jobs with the expansion of gas distribution to Adairsville, upgrading the city's infrastructure to accommodate local and global industries, and negotiating to interconnect the water systems of Floyd County, Bartow County, and the City of Calhoun, which allowed Adairsville to sell wholesale water; and

WHEREAS, he saved Adairsville taxpayers money by upgrading a gas main and working in the dual capacity as both city manager and utilities director for four years; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Pratt has been recognized with numerous honors and accolades throughout his career, including the Billy Gail Hersey, Sr., Award in 2008, the highest honor given to an individual by the Municipal Gas Industry; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Pratt's vision and unyielding commitment will be sorely missed upon the occasion of his retirement and it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Mr. Larry Pratt for his efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service to the State of Georgia; congratulate him upon the grand occasion of his retirement; and extend to him their most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Larry Pratt.
