A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending the Carl Vinson Institute of Government; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Carl Vinson Institute of Government was established in 1928 to provide
Georgia with a forum for the study of issues related to improved governance;
and
WHEREAS,
working as a unit of the University of Georgia, the institute publishes a wide
variety of materials for students, elected and appointed officials, and the
general public that support the institute's mission of research training and
analysis of issues of state, local, national, and international governance;
and
WHEREAS,
every two years, the institute sponsors the Georgia Legislative Leadership
Institute which offers new lawmakers the opportunity to improve their leadership
skills and explore current governance issues with nationally renowned scholars,
professional development experts, and legislative leaders from across the
nation; and
WHEREAS,
for the last 50 years, new and veteran legislators have counted on the
institute's Biennial Institute to provide information and training that will
help them make better-informed decisions for Georgia as an elected official;
and
WHEREAS,
the institute provides an excellent staff and faculty who provide training
courses for state and local government officials and facilitators for strategic
planning sessions and forums on specialized topics; and
WHEREAS,
for over 80 years, the Carl Vinson Institute of Government has been helping
state and local officials improve their understanding of critical issues,
improve their leadership skills, and improve the quality of life for the people
of Georgia.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend the Carl Vinson Institute of Government for providing a forum
for elected officials to enhance their leadership skills, governing styles, and
knowledge of current affairs.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Carl
Vinson Institute of Government.
