RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending the 40th Biennial Clergy Laity Congress; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
every two years, parishes, clergy, laity, and Philoptochos members of the Greek
Orthodox Archdiocese gather to review accomplishments, chart a new path for the
next two years, and learn new things about the Greek Orthodox faith and its
practice; and
WHEREAS,
the 40th Biennial Clergy Laity Congress will take place in Atlanta, Georgia,
from July 4 through 8, 2010; and
WHEREAS,
this gathering of Greek Orthodox Christians will be an opportunity for all
attendees to examine the many wonderful functions of the metropolitan Atlanta
area as well as to share their hopes, dreams, and vision of the future in order
to promote the spiritual growth of present and future generations of Orthodox
Christians in metropolitan Atlanta; and
WHEREAS,
there will be many opportunities during the Clergy Laity Congress and
Philoptochos Congress for the attendees to meet in educational seminars, gather
in business meetings, and join in prayer to achieve the purposes of this
biannual gathering of Greek Orthodox Christians; and
WHEREAS,
this amazing four-day event will feature a Fourth of July celebration at the
Greek Orthodox Annunciation Cathedral of Atlanta, a unique tour of the Georgia
Aquarium, and a Grand Banquet, in addition to great fellowship and educational
opportunities; and
WHEREAS,
the 2010 Greek Orthodox Archdiocese Clergy Laity Assembly will be a great
success due to the outstanding leadership, vision, and organization of the
event's dedicated cochairmen, Bill Marianes and Nick Moraitakis;
and
WHEREAS,
the City of Atlanta serves as an amazing location for the 40th Biennial Clergy
Laity Congress, providing visitors with the chance to experience Atlanta's
dining, shopping, music, and attractions, a mix of Southern hospitality with the
excitement of a major metropolitan city; and
WHEREAS,
Metropolitan Alexios, the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Atlanta, is proud to
serve as the host of this amazing gathering; and
WHEREAS,
the members of this body and the people of Georgia welcome the 40th Biennial
Clergy Laity Congress to their fine Southern state and the City of
Atlanta.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend the 40th Biennial Clergy Laity Congress and welcome its
participants to the City of Atlanta.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to Archbishop
Demetrius of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America; Metropolitan Alexios,
the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Atlanta; and the cochairs of the 40th Biennial
Clergy Laity Congress, Bill Marianes and Nick Moraitakis.
