A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Mr. Gerard Robinson; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. Gerard Robinson has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that he has played in the teaching profession and his deep personal commitment to the education of the students of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Robinson earned an associate's degree from El Camino Community College, a bachelor's degree from Howard University, and a master's degree in education from Harvard University; and

WHEREAS, he has helped to provide countless Georgia students with more educational options through his work as a founding member of KIPP STRIVE and his service on the Georgia Charter School Commission; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Robinson has served as president of the Black Alliance for Educational Options, a national nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that supports parental choice to empower families and increase quality educational options for black children; and

WHEREAS, he has served as a senior research associate for the School Choice Demonstration Project at the University of Arkansas and a senior fellow at the Institute for the Transformation of Learning at Marquette University, where he assisted efforts to reform Milwaukee's private and public school choice programs; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Robinson participated on the Wisconsin team that worked with the National Association of Charter School Authorizers on a project that resulted in the publication of Quality Charter School Authorizing in Wisconsin: Authorizer and Charter School Accountability Under No Child Left Behind; and

WHEREAS, he is an active board member for the Policy Advisory Council at the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools, the Georgia Charter School Commission, the Georgia GOAL Scholarship Program, the Advisory Committee for the Program on Education Policy and Governance at Harvard University, and the United States Department of Education's National Charter School Resource Center; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Robinson's work has enriched and improved the lives of countless future leaders, and he has recently been appointed as Virginia Superintendent of Education; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of his contributions to the students in this state, it is abundantly fitting and proper for this body to honor the extraordinary commitment and accomplishments of this outstanding individual.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body heartily and gratefully commend Mr. Gerard Robinson for his sacrifice, foresight, accomplishments, and contributions on behalf of education in Georgia; recognize the positive influence he has had upon the lives and futures of countless young people in this state; and extend to him best wishes for continued success in his new position.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Gerard Robinson.
