A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Dr. David L. Levine as the Distinguished Older Georgian for 2009; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Dr. David L. Levine was born August 30, 1919, and is still actively contributing to his state and community in his 90th year; and

WHEREAS, he received a Bachelor of Science degree from City College of New York, a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Doctor of Social Work degree from the University of Minnesota, making him one of the first 100 people in the nation to achieve this educational milestone; and

WHEREAS, Dr. David L. Levine was recognized by the University of Georgia as a Professor Emeritus of Social Work in 1990, and he has advanced the field of social work through his teaching at the University of Minnesota, Florida State University, Syracuse University, and, for the last four decades of his career, the Medical College of Georgia and the University of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Levine was united in love and marriage to the late Laura Levine for over 64 years; the couple was blessed with four loving and devoted children; and his loving care for his spouse during her final years is an inspiration; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Levine has lived in Athens-Clarke County since 1969 and has earned a reputation for his devoted service to the community and Georgia, serving as Founding Director of the Athens Community Council on Aging and an active member of the Georgia Council on Aging, the Georgia Gerontology Society Board of Directors, and the National Association of Social Workers; and

WHEREAS, he has provided decades of service and advocacy to the field of mental health through his service on the Olmstead Committee and his chairmanship of the new Northeast Georgia Community Health Center Board; and

WHEREAS, he has influenced the lives of many students and fellow professionals through his mentorship and his genuine concern for their lives and their careers in gerontology; and

WHEREAS, he is a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness, and by the example he has made of his life, he makes this world a better place to live; and it is only fitting and proper that he be appropriately recognized during Senior Week 2009.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that this body heartily commends Dr. David L. Levine for his unselfish, dedicated, and loyal service to his community and state and extends to him its most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dr. David L. Levine.
