RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Mr. Ed Holcombe for outstanding public service; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. Ed Holcombe has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the
vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to
the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
he has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his time,
talents, and energy toward the betterment of this state as evidenced
dramatically by his superlative service as Chief of Staff to Governor Sonny
Perdue; and
WHEREAS,
prior to joining the Executive Staff of the Governor, Chief Lobbyist Holcombe
had a distinguished career at Georgia Power which he began in 1967 and retired
from the company as Vice President of Governmental and Regulatory Affairs;
and
WHEREAS,
during his long and distinguished career with Georgia Power, Mr. Holcombe was
regarded as one of the most competent and talented leaders working on a variety
of key issues such as economic development, federal legislation, business
development, and issues coming before the Public Service Commission;
and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Holcombe was equally adept working on issues of importance to his local
community where he served as Chairman of the Rockdale County Hospital Authority,
Chairman of the Rockdale County Development Authority, President of the Rockdale
Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Rockdale United Way, President of the
Rotary Club, and as a trustee for the Georgia 4-H Foundation; and
WHEREAS,
his leadership as the Governor's Chief of Staff has involved service not only to
the Governor, but also members of the General Assembly and the business
community throughout Georgia;
and
WHEREAS, Mr. Holcombe, in building his lobbyist career, took politicians in his oil burning modified and cold school bus to locations like Savannah and Biloxi to fish in his ten feet wide stream stocked with state fish; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Holcombe, in building his lobbyist career, took politicians in his oil burning modified and cold school bus to locations like Savannah and Biloxi to fish in his ten feet wide stream stocked with state fish; and
WHEREAS,
he played gin rummy five days a week courting friendships with specific
committee chairmen, never winning, but reporting his losses on his expense
account and his lobbyist disclosure; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Holcombe's overall career of service, including both his professional
employment and volunteer community posts, has always been characterized by
strong leadership, sound judgment, and integrity.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body recommend Mr. Ed Holcombe end his governmental career fishing on Lake
Sinclair and recognize him as one of the best schmoozers in the lobbying
business in Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Ed
Holcombe.
