A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Dr. Gloria Duncan; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Dr. Gloria Duncan has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that she has played in higher education and her deep personal commitment to the students of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, she has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of her time, talents, and energy toward the betterment of education for students in Georgia and Clayton County for over 30 years; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Duncan earned a bachelor's degree from Spelman College, a master's degree in educational psychology from State University of West Georgia, a master's degree in educational administration and supervision from Georgia State University, and a doctoral degree in educational leadership from Nova Southeastern University; and

WHEREAS, throughout her distinguished career in education, Dr. Duncan has dedicated herself to challenging and inspiring the future leaders of tomorrow as professional educator and administrator at Mercer University, Riverdale High School, State University of West Georgia, Riverdale Middle School, and Atlanta Job Corps and with Clayton County Public Schools; and

WHEREAS, her leadership and guidance were instrumental to all of Clayton County during her service as Interim Superintendent of Clayton County Public Schools from 2007 to 2008, as she answered the call to serve and did an excellent job leading the system and keeping the community actively involved in the transition process; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Duncan has been honored with numerous accolades and honors, including an NAACP Image Award in Education, a Century Club Award from the Butler Street YMCA, and being named Outstanding Woman in Clayton County in 2003; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of her contributions to the students in this state, it is abundantly fitting and proper for this body to honor the extraordinary commitment and accomplishments of this outstanding individual.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body heartily and gratefully commend Dr. Gloria Duncan for her three decades of sacrifice, foresight, accomplishment, and contributions on behalf of education in Georgia and for the positive influence she has had upon the lives and futures of countless young people in this state.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dr. Gloria Duncan.
