Senate Veterans, Military and Homeland Security Committee offered the following
substitute to SB 327:

BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
AN ACT
To
amend Part 2 of Article 2 of Chapter 3 of Title 20 of the Official Code of
Georgia Annotated, relating to the University System of Georgia, so as to
provide that the Board of Regents shall establish a process by which veterans
receiving educational benefits administered by the federal Department of
Veterans Affairs may pay their tuition in installments or as funds are received
from the federal Department of Veterans Affairs; to provide for related matters;
to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.
BE
IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
SECTION
1.
Part
2 of Article 2 of Chapter 3 of Title 20 of the Official Code of Georgia
Annotated, relating to the University System of Georgia, is amended by adding a
new Code section to read as follows:
"20-3-88.
(a)
The Board of Regents shall establish a process to permit veterans who are
admitted and attending a University System of Georgia institution and who have
been approved for and are receiving educational benefits administered by the
federal Department of Veterans Affairs under Title 38 of the United States Code
to make tuition and other fee and expense payments due such institution on an
installment basis, or at such time that funds for the payment of such tuition
and other fees and expenses are received from the federal Department of Veterans
Affairs.
(b)
In no circumstance shall a veteran be denied attendance at a University System
of Georgia institution to which such veteran has been admitted due to an
inability to pay tuition or other fees and expenses because of a delay in
receiving education benefits from the federal Department of Veterans
Affairs."
SECTION
2.
All
laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
