RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Piedmont Newnan Hospital and Piedmont Healthcare; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Piedmont Newnan Hospital is a 136 bed, nonprofit acute care hospital located in
Coweta County; and
WHEREAS,
Piedmont Newnan Hospital provides emergency, inpatient, medical and surgical,
outpatient, imaging and diagnostics, and women's services and maintains an
ambulatory surgery center; and
WHEREAS,
Piedmont Newnan Hospital has more than 800 employees and an annual economic
benefit of more than $157 million to the local community and to Georgia
citizens; and
WHEREAS,
each Coweta hospital job supports approximately 1.4 additional jobs in the
overall economy and every dollar spent by a hospital supports almost $1.54 in
additional business activity; and
WHEREAS,
Piedmont Healthcare acquired Piedmont Newnan Hospital in 2007 and committed to
the community to build a replacement for the existing 1925 hospital so that it
would provide the latest state-of-the-art medical technology with convenient
community access; and
WHEREAS,
Piedmont Hospital invested more than $162 million in constructing the new
hospital that will open May 8, 2012; and
WHEREAS,
Piedmont Newnan Hospital will be one of the first LEED certified hospitals in
Georgia, which is an internationally recognized green building certification
that combines sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency,
and materials selection and indoor environment quality; and
WHEREAS,
the new hospital is made up of 362,376 square feet on 105 acres and is designed
for improved patient access and way finding, flexibility, and operational
efficiencies; and
WHEREAS,
under the leadership of Piedmont Newnan Hospital President and CEO Michael Bass
and Piedmont Healthcare President and CEO R. Timothy Stack, this five-year
project became a reality even in the face of one of the worst economic
recessions in the country; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Bass and the employees, physicians, and volunteers have worked tirelessly to
build a world class health facility in Coweta focused on providing access to
state-of-the-art medical equipment and services.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
the leadership of Piedmont Newnan Hospital and Piedmont Healthcare for its
dedication to improving the lives of Coweta's residents and Georgians through
the provision of quality healthcare services.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Piedmont Newnan Hospital
President and CEO Michael Bass and Piedmont Healthcare President and CEO R.
Timothy Stack.
